Lyric James’ – Reflecting on 2012 #writing, #goals, #ebook, #audiobookchallenge

Thursday, November 29th, 2012 | Random Thoughts, Work In Progress, Writing | No Comments

As the year winds down I’m in deep reflection on what I’ve accomplished. Did I meet all my goals? Am I happy with what I’ve achieved?

I’ve learned a few things about myself. I’m not good with deadlines. At least, not deadlines I make for myself. Makes me wonder if I could ever truly work for a “traditional publisher” because if you sell a novel to them, you have a deadline. I’m not sure if that’s good or bad for me but what I have figured out is that my writing creativity can NOT flourish with daily word count deadlines. I used to tell myself…you have to write 500 words a day or 1000 words a day.

It didn’t work.

For the most part, I accomplished it, but it drove me crazy and I felt so guilty when I didn’t meet the word count. I was too focused on the word count and not my creativity. I was putting too much pressure on myself. I realized if I just sat down and wrote, whether I wrote 250 words or 2500 words, whatever I wrote, I was happy with it. AND…I ended up writing more. The words flowed easier when I didn’t put any pressure on myself.

Did I complete all my goals this year? Nope. But I’m okay with that. So far I have self-published 3 titles and will publish one more before the year is out. That’s 4 in one year, which is actually really good for me because I don’t think I’ve published that many titles in one year in a very long time.

Did I want to publish more? Sure…but again, I’m okay with what I have accomplished. Not feeling guilty and won’t feel guilty about it. I wrote a lot more as well, came up with some new ideas for stories and I’m ready to start the new year fresh with many possibilities.  The only thing I regret is not publishing anything last year with any of my e-publishers (Cobblestone, Samhain, and Ellora’s Cave).

That WILL change next year. I already have stories planned and plotted for each of them. I’ve already done some soul-searching and goal planning, plus I know what I want to self-publish as well. Next week I’ll tell you all about my plans.

If you haven’t already and you’re a writer, I hope you’re doing some reflecting and planning as well. If you’re a reader (I am too) what are your reading goals for next year?

I’ve joined a 2013 audio book challenge. I love listening to books. I have a subscription to Audible so at any given time I’m “listening” to something. My favorite two series to listen to are JD Robb’s In Death Series and Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series. Two different genres but I love both of them.  I’m going to be “plugged in” – which means my goal is to listen to 15+ audio books. I don’t think I’ll have a problem with that. If you want any information about it, go here. It’s being co-hosted by Hot Listens and The Book Nympho.

I think I’m going to join an e-book reading challenge as well. One is being hosted by Workaday Reads. I read a LOT of e-books so I don’t think this will be difficult but I’m trying to decide if I want to be held accountable right now for keeping up with what I’ve read and/or posting about. I do it on Goodreads…sporadically, but not sure I want to do it somewhere else. Hmmm…decisions decisions. I’ll let you know.

As always….peace, love and sex!

Want To Meet My Next Hero? #hero #chrispine #sexy #wip

Monday, November 26th, 2012 | Hero Worship, Sexy Eye Candy, Writing | 16 Comments

I was in the beauty shop last Wednesday and the conversation between the stylists when I sat in the chair was what are your “NO’s” when it comes to picking a mate (boyfriend, husband)? They had me cracking up thinking up different scenarios i.e. what would you do if you met a man who had a gold tooth? missing teeth?  bad breath? no hair? fat? Would you be attracted to him?

So of course it got me to thinking about hero’s in romance stories. They’re always handsome. Sure, he might have a crooked smile or a crooked nose, maybe not “fine” but distinguised…but, he’s always handsome. I mean…who wants to fall in love with an ugly guy? Reading a romance novel is all about the fantasy. A dashing handsome prince whose going to sweep you off your feet, right? He’s fit and has a great body.

I remember telling them that when I met a guy (when I was available – I’ve been happyily married for over 13 years :-) ) if I couldn’t picture myself having sex with the guy…then it was a NO for me. It was that simple. And I think most women feel this way. No matter who you’re attracted to or what type of man you’re attracted to, if you can’t see yourself between the sheets with him…then whats the point?

Which brings me to who I see or imagine as the hero of my next novel.

Don’t ask me why but I’ve been seriously crushing on Chris Pine this weekend. I took the kiddos to see Rise of the Guardians. It was “really” good. If you haven’t seen it already…you should. It’s an exceptional “feel good” movie and reinforces the fantasies (hope) we tell/told our children about Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny and The Tooth Fairy. Gotta love it.

Then…later on in my holiday weekend I precede to watch Star Trek, This Means War and Unstoppable.

Are we seeing a pattern yet?

Yes!

Chris Pine.

And seeing as though he’s been staring in my fantasies this weekend (don’t tell the husband) I’m thinking he needs to star as a hero in a future novel. What do you think?

He’s 6’1″, has brunette hair and sparkling blue eyes. That has yummy written all over it. And the man looks damn good in a suit!

Ladies, meet the next hero in my novel…Chris Pine!

Peace, love and sex!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jared smiled and leaned forward, careful not to press on her face or hair. He planted a soft, delicate kiss on her belly. From that spot, tingles, slow and hot, shot out to every edge of her body. More kisses…navel, hip, ribcage, the bottom round of both breasts.
Kisses. Licks. Small bites.
Each and every one caressed, melted, and aroused her until she moaned.
“Yes.”
He applied light feather strokes over her belly, her breasts, neck and shoulders. With each soft brush, her skin came alive. Her body buzzed and heated, singed with need and lust. She wanted his fingers everywhere.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Welcome to The Pleasure Club, where fantasy becomes reality.

Lynae Moore wants to open her own day spa, but before she does, she wants to add one more certification to h er repertoire…becoming a massage therapist. Thanks to her sister, The Pleasure Club has found her the perfect Pleasure Master to introduce her to the sensual and erotic art only a masseuse’s touch can bring. Vindication – Six Sentence Sunday – Lyric James #sixsunday, #amwriting, #bdsm

Sunday, November 18th, 2012 | Book Pimpage, Six Sentence Sunday | 9 Comments

Today’s Six Sentence Sunday comes from a story I received the rights back that I am now, rewriting. Originally published, it was a little over 11K. I started rewriting it last Monday and I’ve added almost 9K to it. I am loving this story and it’s practically writing itself. That hasn’t happened to me in a while.  This six comes from a scene in the book when Karyn and Zechariah are about to witness someone’s fantasy played out on stage. I hope you enjoy!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the men reached forward and brushed his finger lightly from her shoulder down the length of her back to the slit of her ass. That simple touch elicited a wicked charge of electricity through the room when the woman arched her back and moaned.
Karyn’s body tingled as if the men touched her instead. More hands began to stroke and caress her, and again, Karyn experienced it as if each shift of their hands, graze of their fingertips, were on her body, feeling her heated skin.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And guess what…I already have cover art. Check it out!

And of course…there’s a new blurb.

Private Investigator Karyn Harris’ sister was killed in the line of duty and branded a rogue cop. She’s spent the last year grieving and wishing she could find the one clue that will vindicate her sister. Zechariah Washington, an ex-cop and law student, is there to help ease her pain, but he wants to be more than a shoulder to cry on. After a mid-afternoon booty call, an unexpected phone call sends Karyn and Zechariah to the last place her sister was seen alive…the BDSM club, Twine. Karyn finds out more than she bargained for about the last few months of her sister’s life and realizes the only way to find her killer is to follow in her footsteps, become a member of the club and enlists Zechariah to go under cover with her. Before too long, Karyn realizes she’s going down the same path. When the dark fantasies of floggers, spankings and collars become her own, finding her sister’s killer no longer drives her desire to return to the club again and again, but her erotic need for Zechariah’s dominance. Will she come to her senses before it’s too late or will they fall victim to the same people who murdered her sister?

TWINE: Vindication will be available in January!

Up All Night

Beach House Nights Book #3

Stella Lewis is excited when she receives a weekend invite to a friend’s beach house, especially when the beach house’s attic is full of priceless furniture she can sell at her struggling antique store. The last thing she expected was to be sidelined by her attraction to playboy millionaire, Ian Hollis. The two have nothing in common, except their insane but inexplicable attraction to each other.

After winning a multi-million dollar lottery when he was only twenty-five, Ian Hollis has been living the high life. But the first time he saw Stella, he knew there was something sinful hiding beneath the exterior of the prim and proper miss. Proving it to the workaholic beauty is a whole different story. Stella is running scared, but if she thinks she can rebuff Ian’s advances that easily, she’s in for a surprise. Ian is willing to prove to Stella he can stay up all night to prove she’s the woman of his dreams.

Excerpt:

Stella shivered a little when he tilted his head. She opened her mouth to speak but she never got the chance. Once his lips touched hers, she forgot everything and found herself being thoroughly kissed. The moment she felt his tongue invade her mouth, she lost every inhibition she’d buried deep inside her.

Ian introduced her to a range of sensations she never knew existed. It started in her toes and turned her knees into jelly. An erotic tingle began in the middle of her thighs, snaking up her pelvis to her breasts, squeezing her nipples into hard points.

Turbulent emotions, so unfamiliar to her, erupted across every inch of her skin. His lips were sure and potent, his mouth a feast of sugar and spice. An unexpected sizzle had her gripping his shirt, holding on for dear life.

The kiss was deadly. Blood rushed everywhere at once, fast and furious, with each swish of his tongue. He lapped at her lips, leaving her entire body shuddering from the inside out.

He tightened his arms around her waist, almost stealing her breath, and when he shifted, she found her back flat against the soft mattress, scorched by the heat of him, the thick hardness behind the zipper of his linen shorts pulsing between her spread legs. When she arched her hips, he moaned deep in his throat.

Ian released her mouth, and she protested until he brushed kisses across her forehead, eyebrows, cheeks, and temples. His hands eased from her waist to smooth up her stomach before cupping her breasts.

“Stella, you’ve been driving me crazy for years,” he muttered and moved back to her lips, allowing her to feel each glorious inch of muscle and man.

Stella gripped the front of his shirt and yanked. She heard the buttons scatter. Some hit the headboard, others the bed and the carpeted floor. Ian swore softly and pulled her up, ridding her of her blouse with a subtle and practiced ease.

He sucked a quick gulp of air into his lungs. “You’re exquisite,” he said, dragging his finger over the lace of her bra. “I knew you would be.”

It pleased her. The only thing Stella ever splurged on was her underwear, loving the feel of silk against her skin. She might be prim and proper on the outside, but she knew how to sex it up on the inside, even if no one ever saw it.

Until now.

Until Ian.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He stood and reached for her glass. “Don’t worry about these. I’ll rinse them and put them in the dishwasher before I come upstairs.”
When he took it, their fingers grazed, and a shock of electricity zinged through her.
Go upstairs, Sonja a voice warned. Now, before you do something stupid.
“I’ll see you tomorrow morning at breakfast. Margery usually has it ready by ten on Sundays.”
“Okay.”
Why won’t my legs move?
The next thing she knew, Trent’s hands lifted, and he cupped them gently around her face. His mouth covered hers in a gentle kiss that sucked the oxygen right out of her lungs.
Lyric’s Writing Wednesday, #amwriting
Wednesday, November 7th, 2012 | Book Pimpage, Wicked Wednesday, Work In Progress, Writing | 1 Comment
 Create your own banner at mybannermaker.com!
I believe I’ve finally gotten my writing mojo back! I received the edits back for Up All Night and the manuscript and the cover is off to my formatter! I’m hoping to have it released to all the normal places by the end of the week. Phew! This has been a long time coming. I haven’t released a new book since March. That’s way too long.
Today I’m going to share an excerpt and the cover I’ve already received from my current WIP that I hope to have finished by the end of next week…maybe. I’m a slow writer. I’m actually “rewriting” this story. It was initially published in 2006 from Cobblestone Press but I’ve since received the rights back and had this brilliant idea to rewrite the thing. It was a short story, about 11k, an erotic romantic suspense, but I’ve decided to tweak that a little bit and add a little more spice and kink. This was the original blurb for it:
P.I. Karyn Harris’ sister was killed in the` line of duty and branded a rogue cop.  She’s spent the last year grieving and trying to clear her sister’s name. Zechariah Washington, an ex-cop and law student, is there to help ease her pain, but he wants to be more than a shoulder to cry on. Then, an unexpected phone call sends the couple on a life-threatening search to find the clue that will vindicate her sister. Can Zechariah convince Karyn there’s more to their relationship or will they both fall victim to the same people who murdered her sister?
Not bad…but when I decided I wanted to rewrite the story and delve “more” into what happened to the sister, I came up with this….
Private Investigator Karyn Harris’ sister was killed in the line of duty and branded a rogue cop. She’s spent the last year grieving and wishing she could find the one clue that will vindicate her sister. Zechariah Washington, an ex-cop and law student, is there to help ease her pain, but he wants to be more than a shoulder to cry on. After a mid-afternoon booty call, an unexpected phone call sends Karyn and Zechariah to the last place her sister was seen alive…the fantasy sex club, Twine. Karyn finds out more than she bargained for about the last few months of her sister’s life and realizes the only way to find her killer is to follow in her footsteps, become a member of the club and enlists Zechariah to go under cover with her. Before too long, Karyn realizes she’s going down the same path. When the dark fantasies of floggers, spankings and collars become her own, finding her sister’s killer no longer drives her desire to return to the club again and again, but her erotic need for Zechariah’s dominance. Will she come to her senses before it’s too late or will they fall victim to the same people who murdered her sister?
I know right!!! Awesome new blurb if I do say so myself.  After I wrote that blurb, a few days later this scene just popped into my head and I stopped what I was doing right then and there and wrote it. Check it out!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Who was she? What kind of woman got off on this type of pleasure and pain?

She did.

This entire undercover assignment was supposed to be about finding her sisters killer. Not about exploring the kinky side she never even realized she had. But as Zee’s hand spanked her ass, she couldn’t help the roll of desire sizzling inside her depths. She was wet. Sinfully creamy and she didn’t want it to stop.

“Count,” he hissed.

And she heard it in his voice. The undercurrent of need and want. Zee was just as turned on as she was judging by the swell and thump of his cock on her stomach. “Five,” she moaned.

“Now stop,” Torque said. “Stop and feel. To be a Dom you have to not only be aware of your own bodies limits, but your submissive’s as well. Listen to her breathing. She’s panting. She’s so fucking turned on right now she wants to scream fuck me. Please fuck me right now.”

How did he know this? He was clear across the room but he knew exactly what she wanted. Karyn needed Zee’s cock so far up inside her she did want to yell. To the top of the rafters she wanted to yell.

No! This wasn’t right it wasn’t right at all.

“Don’t fight it Kay.”

Air lodged in her throat as her body went rigid over Zee’s thighs.

“You have to coax her out of her fear Zee. She’s resisting your dominance over her. Let her know it’s just as much for you as it is for her. Smooth your hand over her ass.”

A beat later, Zee glided his palm over her ass cheeks still tingling from the bite of his spanking.

“That’s right, slowly.  Move from one to the other.”

Karyn tugged her bottom lip between her teeth to keep from crying out with pleasure.

“He has to hear it Kay. Your Dom has to hear, feel and witness his dominance over you. Let it out.”

No. No. She couldn’t. This isn’t who she was. Karyn was submissive to no man. She was strong, powerful.

“You’re going to have to make her Zee. Slide your fingers between her legs.”

Zech did and it was glorious.

“See how wet she is. Her pussy is dripping just for you. Only you.”

She heard a deep rumbling groan well up inside Zee, felt it throb against her hip.

He eased two digits inside her now and pumped.

“Let it out Kay. Let go.”

“Yes. Oh god yes,” she moaned.

“Pull your fingers out and talk to her Zee. Let her know who’s in control.”

When his hand left her she felt bereft, lost. ”Please Zee, don’t stop.”

His hand crashed down on her left butt cheek. “Is that the correct way you address me?”

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry.” The pain was such a mixture of desire and abhorrence, mist clouded her vision. “Please Sir. Don’t stop.”

“But I thought you didn’t want to be punished. I thought you said you didn’t deserve it.”

Those simple words were coming back to haunt her. If the ecstasy coiling through her veins was any indication of what she now desired, she welcomed the sting of his hand on her ass. “I was wrong Sir. Any punishment Sir believes I should receive I welcome it.”

There was a hitch in Zech’s breathing. “Kar-”

He said it so softly she didn’t know if she really heard him at all.

“Zee,” Torque bellowed, “Complete her punishment.”

His hand slammed down on her and she screamed. “Six.”

Again and again he smacked until she choked out, “Twelve.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had soooooo much fun writing that! I’ve never written anything like it before? What do you think? And here’s the cover my wonderful cover artist Sasha White created for me.
Not sure when this story will be released, hopefully December. Hope you enjoyed the excerpt. Please be sure to leave a comment. I like them all…good or bad.
Peace, love and sex!
Up All Night – Six Sentence Sunday, #sixsunday
Sunday, November 4th, 2012 | Book Pimpage, Six Sentence Sunday | 7 Comments
This week’s Six Sentence Sunday comes from my upcoming release, Up All Night, book #3 of my Beach House Nights Series! This six comes from the part of the story where Stella is fighting her attraction to Ian. :-) Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Ian looked like a jungle cat ready to pounce. “Are you ready to have some fun?”

His lips were so close to hers. Wicked thoughts suddenly began to race through her mind. All she had to do was stick out her tongue and taste him. One taste. She bit her tongue to keep it in her mouth and her breathing increased. By the rise and fall of his, oh so masculine chest, so had Ian’s.

Would it really be so bad if she let go this one time, this one weekend?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stella Lewis is excited when she receives a weekend invite to a friend’s beach house, especially when the beach house’s attic is full of priceless furniture she can sell at her struggling antique store. Since my last Feature Friday I”ve ploud through about 5books. I’ve read Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker (EL James); Bared to You and Reflected In You (Sylvia Day); and The Mark of Athena (Rick Riordan). I haven’t finished On Dublin Street or The Fourth Stall. So, those are still on the CRL (currently reading list).
I’ve also purchased several more books (paperback AND e-book) that I need to get too. What you need to know about me is that since I’ve been e-reading, I rarely walk into a bookstore and purchase a paperback but I haven’t been able to help myself these last few weeks. I think I’ve spent over $60 on paperbacks. But they were soooo good! I have to admit that I LOVE the 50 series. I don’t know how accurate her portrayel of the BDSM lifestyle is…but I LOVED these characters. Anatasia and Christian drew me in completely. I’m waiting to buy the last book until I finish the current books on my TBR. I also adored Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series. Eva and Gideon are magic!!! And book #2 went out with a BANG! so I can’t wait for Entwined In You (I think that’s the name of the 3rd book) comes out.
Now…for this weeks FF.
