Thoughts…and Reminders, #hurricane #sandy #dropbox

Tuesday, October 30th, 2012 | Tips For Tuesday | No Comments

A friend came to see me today. I’ve been on her mind lately since the loss of my father and she brought me something really special.

Isn’t it beautiful. I don’t know if you can really tell from this picture but the detailing is awesome. I’m going to put in on my shelf in front of my Footprints poem. Everytime I look at it I’ll think of my dad…hopefully, with a smile.

My thoughts also strayed to what’s going on on the East Coast. Hurricane Sandy. I am sending my thoughts and prayers to everyone on that side of the country to be safe, but most of all take care of each other. I’ve had lots of shoulders to lean on the last couple of weeks and I urge you to do the same for your fellow man (woman). Lives will be lost. It’s inevitable with this type of storm.  So be there for each other!

I was watching the news this morning and saw all the flooding and power outages and it also made me realize that I needed to “back up my files!!” I haven’t done it in awhile. I use Dropbox. It’s quick, easy and FREE! Well…free for up to 2GB. But honestly, that’s all I really need. It’s web based storage so you can access it anywhere just by going to the website. BUT, you can also download it to your iPad, iPhone, and desktop computers. So again, you can get to it anywhere.

Peace, love and sex!

Something Wet – Six Sentence Sunday, #sixsunday #amreading

Sunday, October 28th, 2012 | Book Pimpage, Six Sentence Sunday | 2 Comments

Today’s Six Sentence Sunday comes from my Beach House Nights series, Something Wet. This six comes from the part of the story where Violet and Logan share their first kiss. :-) Enjoy!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He kissed her.
At first, she didn’t believe it was happening. A feeling of incredulity coasted around inside her when his tongue slid into her mouth, his teeth nipped at her bottom lip. He took his time and coaxed a response from her as he captured her essence.
Then she remembered what this weekend was about. Seducing Logan McMasters. And lost herself in the kiss.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Violet Tanner had the shittiest week ever. She was demoted at work, her apartment got flooded, and the guy she’s dating sends her an email to tell her he needs some space. When she gets an invite from one of her closest friends to a party at her beach house, her quick RSVP leaves her computer smoking.

Things start to look up when hottie Logan McMasters arrives. She’s lusted after the ex-pro ball player for years. She’s determined to have her weekend end on a hot and sexy note and stops at nothing less than full-on seduction to get her man. Before the night is over, Logan is going to know what it means to experience something hot, something spicy, and something wet.

 What are my prizes?

One (1) lucky winner will receive a $10 gift certificate to Amazon and (2) lucky winners will receive an e-copy of my Halloween short story, Halloween Wish.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love Halloween! I don’t think there’s a kid out there that doesn’t. What makes it more fun? Parties and costumes!!! Being able to dress up and run around outside at night with your friends was the best time ever.  Now…costume buying now is NOTHING compared to what it was 30…I mean 10 years ago when I was a kid. (Hey…stop laughing!) Whatever costume you can imagine, 9 times out of 10…it’s out there. You don’t have to be a witch or a ghost anymore. You can be a sexy kitten, a fairy, a leprechaun, a zombie or a pirate. My most memorable Halloween costume was dressing up as Princess Barbie.
My heroine in Halloween Wish Jordan goes to a Halloween party dressed as a genie. Check out this blurb and excerpt.
For Jordan Keys, a neighbors Halloween party is her last chance to fulfill a desire that has fueled her dreams for years, to spend one night in the arms of Kaden James. When she put on her genie costume, she never expected Kaden to ask her for the one wish she’s always wanted. But when the night is over, will a Halloween wish be the beginning or the end, after they discover that one night may never be enough to make all their wishes come true.
Her gaze slid over him, taking in the rest of his costume until she met his eyes. Boy did it accentuate his muscular physique. She attempted to keep any emotion she felt off her face as her heart began to thump wildly. The shirt he wore had a split up the middle, and his incredible abs winked at her from underneath. He had on a white skirt, a blue and gold belt wrapped around his waist. It wasn’t a skirt exactly, but for the life of her she couldn’t recall the correct name of the rest of his costume. Her mind had turned into mush.
“Kaden.”
He sat his glass down on a side table and smiled. “Hey, Natalie. Can I steal Jatoi away from you?”
“Sure.” Before Natalie walked away, she whispered, “Remember what I said. Last chance.”
“Last chance for what?” he asked.
Jatoi was flooded with embarrassment. “Nothing. We were just talking about…nothing. How are you?” She allowed her gaze to travel the length of him again. “I like your costume. Which Egyptian god are you?” A kilt. That’s it, she thought.
“King Tut.”
When he mimicked her and his gaze slid down her body and back up again, desire squeezed the air from her lungs.
“You look great.”
A rush of pleasure went through her. She moved her hands over her thighs to grasp the folds of the material that billowed at her legs. “I Dream of Jeannie. I don’t know why I let Nat talk me into wearing this thing.”
She wanted to look sexy, that’s why. They’d gone to four different stores searching out something to wear. When she’d put it on, Natalie told her she had to buy it, and after looking at herself in the mirror, she thought she’d made the right choice. It covered up all the essential parts, yet showed just enough skin. Plus she’d found one in purple and lavender, not the typical pink. And Natalie had been right. She knew Kaden would be at the party. She’d paired it with a cute pair of spiky heels that made her feel like she was on stilts. Goodness, she hoped she didn’t fall.
He took a step closer, put his arm around her waist, and pulled her forward. He whispered into her ear, “Can I make a wish?”
Jatoi knew he’d asked her something. Her brain registered the fact that he’d just touched her. The feel of his fingers against her bare lower back sent every cell in her body into hypersexual overdrive.
She looked up into fathomless green eyes that hadn’t changed at all. They were still rimmed by thick dark lashes and still reminded her of the summers she’d spent running through the fields on her grandfather’s farm in Arkansas.
She cleared her throat. With courage she didn’t know she possessed, she responded, “You have to find my bottle and rub it three times first. I can’t grant you a wish unless you find it.”
Lyric James is getting Wicked After Dark! #bloghop #contest #freebook
Wednesday, October 24th, 2012 | Blog Hop, Book Pimpage, Contests, Holiday's | 27 Comments
ARE YOU READY TO GET WICKED AFTER DARK WITH LYRIC JAMES?
Of course you are! Plus…there’s a chance to win prizes.
Thanks for stopping by my stop on the Wicked After Dark Halloween Blog Hop. Special thanks to Close Encounters With The Night Kind and Natasha Blackhorne for organizing and hosting this blog hop.
Make sure you stop by each author and/or bloggers hop for a chance to win a ton of prizes.
What are my prizes?
One (1) lucky winner will receive a $25.00 gift certificate to Eden Fantasys and two (2) lucky winners will receive an e-copy of my Halloween short story, Halloween Wish.
I love Halloween. It’s the only time of year I…kids…can gorge themselves on candy and the parents don’t mind. The candy I look forward to is Brach’s Candy Corn. Now don’t get me wrong…I love my chocolate…but this is the only time of the year that stores carry loads of this wonderful goodness. In fact…I have a bag in my office drawer right now. Ha!
My second favorite thing about Halloween….parties! It’s a time when adults can dress up in costumes and be anything they want. Check out this excerpt from my short-story, Halloween Wish.
For Jordan Keys, a neighbors Halloween party is her last chance to fulfill a desire that has fueled her dreams for years, to spend one night in the arms of Kaden James. Writing Through Grief, #amwriting
Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012 | Work In Progress, Writing | 12 Comments
I’m sad.
I’m just going to go ahead and put that out there and tell you why.
After a short battle with stage 4 bile duct cancer, my father passed away on October 12th. I’m lucky, in many ways, to have had him in my life for 42 years…but it’s still heart breaking.
We all knew it was going to happen. And when I say we, I mean myself, my mother and my brother…my father. He was doing at-home hospice. It was an eventuality.
It still hurts.
I don’t find myself thinking about him every day, all day…but he crosses my mind.
I was on a roll the last few weeks.
I completed a story, started on a new one. But after being so busy with my mom, helping with arrangements, being at her house when people stopped by to offer their condolences, I didn’t write.
But now that I’m back to my regular routine…I have to work through my grief and write. I’ve been able to read, escape into someone else’s words…but not my own. I’m guessing that’s normal. I don’t really know. I’ve looked online to see if there were any articles about writing through your grief, but really haven’t found one that resonates with me yet. I’ve found articles about people who write “after” a loved one’s death, however, they were not  an “author” before the loss. So, their frame of reference is different than mine.
I’m an author. I was an author long before my father passed away. Now…I have to find the willpower to basically “suck it up” and still be one after he’s gone. I need to find the words. I need to emerse myself into my story again.
I need to write.
Any helpful advice is appreciated or links to articles you may have found online if you’ve experienced the same thing.
Peace, love and sex!
Hot In Handcuffs Blog Hoppers Go HERE!
Today’s Six Sentence Sunday comes from short story and book one of my Beach House Nights series, Lover’s Revenge. This six comes from the part of the story where Dayna decides that she’s going to exact her Lover’s Revenge. :-) Enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He grabbed her forearms and squeezed. It didn’t hurt, but it let her know that she was playing with a fire she might not be able to put out or contain once it started. “He could come crawling back. If we do this, how will you feel when he does?”

Slowly, she began to unbutton his shirt. Eager to see him naked, her tongue snaked out over her bottom lip. “I wouldn’t take him back if he came to me crawling across a pile of diamonds and gold.”

Lyric’s Feature Friday – What Are You Reading This Week? #amreading, #kindle, #audible

Friday, October 12th, 2012 | Book Pimpage, Book Review Friday | No Comments

HOT IN HANDCUFFS BLOG

HOPPERS GO HERE!

“If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.” Stephen King

 Create your own banner at mybannermaker.com!

I don’t read Stephen King. I don’t like horror. I don’t like to read it. I don’t like to watch horrow movies. BUT I love this quote. To be a writer, you must be a reader. So, on Friday’s I’ve decided to share what’s on my pile and I’d love for you to share as well. I love recommendations!

 On My Kindle…

I purchased this book simply because it was #1 on Amazon at the time. I read some of the reviews which were pretty good and I read the blurb and it intrigued me as well. I’m really enjoying this book. The dynamic between the two main characters is nice, plus, I like it when the man has the hots for the woman and she puts him off for a little while. I’m juggling reading this with the next book but my plan is to have this one finished by the end of the weekend.

On My Nightstand…

Yes, there are two books on my nightstand right now. You have to understand that my tastes are really eclectic so I can jump from middle grade to oh hot mamma with ease and not feel squeamish about it either. LOL If you have a middle school boy in your house, he might enjoy The Fourth Stall. Bared To You is AWESOME SAUCE!!! I’m almost finished with it. I thought book #2 was out already but when I went to my local book store, it’s not due in the stores until Oct. 23 or somewhere along there. I think it’s available as an e-book but if I’m going to pay $9.99 for a book…I may as well get the paperback.

On Audible…

Rick Riordan is one of my favorite YA/MG authors. I simply adored the Percy Jackson series, his Kane Chronicles series and now The Lost Hero series as well. Again, if you have a middle school aged boy in your home, I’m sure he’ll like this series.

Would You Like To Be Hot In Handcuffs? #hotinhandcuffs, #bloghop, #bdsm

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012 | Blog Hop, Contests | 42 Comments

Welcome to Hot In Handcuffs Blog Hop! Thanks for visiting my blog. I hope you take the time to browse around and check out my website and see if there’s anything you’d like to add to your TBR list. :-)

The blog hop runs from October 10th to October 15th. Do you like a little ménage a trois or perhaps some spanking to go with your bondage? Perhaps you prefer some guy on guy action or even some role-playing… Whatever your kink is, The Hot In Handcuffs blog hop wants to celebrate it!

For my part in the blog hop I will be giving away 4 prizes! Two winners will receive an e-copy of any book on my backlist and two winners will receive a $5.00 gift to Amazon.

Are you ready to hop? Yes! Then lets get started….

Erotic romance, specifically BDSM erotic romance is on the rise! The huge following of E.L James’ 50 Shades of Gray has brought this genre up to the forefront of romantic fiction. BUT…I have to admit…I haven’t read it. I have friends who’ve read it and loved it! Now these friends, are readers, they aren’t writers, so for someone like me, I knew that genre was out there well before Ms. James’ book came along…but again, I just never read it. Never thought about reading it. Never wanted to read it. Here’s another BUT…I got interested. So, I picked up my trusty iPad, went to Amazon and started to browse the top 100 list (free and paid) to see what was out there and test the genre out for myself to see if I would like it.

I did.

Let’s just say Little Miss Lyric got a whole lotta hot under the collar after reading a couple of free shorts. I went ahead out to buy a few too. The particular authors I read had the right idea too. The first in their series of BDSM novella’s at the time were free…the 2nd, 3rd, etc. cost anywhere from $.99 to $2.99. And I didn’t mind paying. I read the Melody series by Imogen Linn, Anything He Wants series by Sara Fawkes, and the Brie series by Red Phoenix.

Reading this genre also had me thinking about writing one myself. After some well thought out research of course. :-) So stay tuned…

To enter my contest, log-in to the Rafflecopter below and answer these questions? Do you like the BDSM genre? Who is your favorite author?

Have fun hopping! To visit the other authors participating in this blog hop, go here!

Lyric’s Movie Monday – Madagascar #movies

Monday, October 8th, 2012 | Movie Monday | No Comments

I am back to regular programming…at least for this week. Movie Monday is back! In case any of you don’t know, I am part of a movie family. We love movies. Whether it’s a comedy, action flick, animation, sci fi or drama, we like them all. We have a huge collection of DVD’s (not going to tell you how many because then you’d think we were on the left side of crazy town) we watch all the time. I still have to get through my summer movie watching reviews and I’m glad I have a few more to review (The Dark Knight Rises, The Bourne Legacy, Ice Age: Continental Drift, Total Recall, The Amazing Spiderman) because the last couple of months…there hasn’t been much I’ve wanted to see. I just might run out of material if the movie makers that be don’t get their shiznet together.

Today’s Movie Monday Feature is Madagascar 3.

I have to admit…I loved this movie. I’ve loved each and every installment of this series. I think I liked this one so much because it wasn’t just about getting Alex (Ben Stiller) and the gang back to New York. I mean, it was the ultimate goal of course, but in order to get where they wanted to go, they had to put aside their needs to help another group of animals who had lost their way in more ways than one. Plus, Alex got a love interest this time. I must admit that my favorite characters are Marty and Melman.

Chris Rock and David Schwimmer do such a good job bringing these two characters to life. Marty’s silliness and Melmans’ neuroticism are hilarious. Of course, all the old game is still around, Gloria (Jada Pinkett Smith), Maurice (Cedric The Enterainer), Julian (Sacha Baron Cohen) and the penguins…gotta love the penguins.

If you haven’t seen this movie, the DVD comes out October 16th. Make sure you pick up a copy. It’s a great movie to watch with the family!

Next Monday: The Dark Knight Rises

Movies I Want To See: Taken 2 and Looper

Are there any movies you’re excited to see?

As always…peace, love and sex!

Ban It! Or Better Yet, Make It Into A Movie, #ireadbannedbooks, #bannedbooksweek, #movies

Saturday, October 6th, 2012 | Book Pimpage, Movie Monday | 2 Comments

I took a perusal of the lists the ALA have made since 2004 of all (reported to them) the books that were challenged/removed/banned and I noticed…a LOT of them have been made into movies. Go figure! I guess Hollywood doesn’t agree with it either. But hey, it’s Hollywood. That’s a whole nother brand of crazy in and of itself. However, I thought I’d share some of the challenged books that have been made into movies.

The Lorax

The Hunger Games

The Harry Potter Series

The Perks of Being A Wild Flower

The Color Purple

To Kill A Mockingbird

Gossip Girl (TV Series)

The Twilight Series

The Catcher and the Rye

The Golden Compasss

Beloved

Of Mice and Men

Bridge to Terabithia

Check out the 10 Most Frequently Challenged Books here. The ALA compiles a list every year.

Banned Book Week officially ends today so this will be my last post about banned books this year. I hope you had a chance to check out my other posts this week. I hope you learned something. I hope you had a chance to read a banned book.

Peace, love and sex!
