Each day of the hop I’m going to talk about a different romantic favorite: gifts, books, movies, keepsakes.

My topic for today is my favorite romantic gifts.

Although I love to write about huge romantic gestures, I’m a simple girl at heart. Nothing says I love you more than a dozen roses or a nice piece of jewelry.  This past Valentine’s Day my hubby went a little different and got me one of those edible bouquet arrangements with fruit and chocolate which I thought was really sweet.  To me, it’s the thought that counts, the actual “thinking of me” enough to take the time get me something. I really love the “just” because gifts that come out of the blue that have nothing to do with a holiday or an anniversary. Those are the best, aren’t they? What about you? What’s the most romantic gift you’ve ever received?

Don’t forget to visit the other authors participating in the blog hop.

Movie Monday – Snow White and the Huntsman

Monday, August 27th, 2012 | Movie Monday, Sexy Eye Candy | 2 Comments

Today’s Movie Monday – Snow White and the Huntsman.

I really enjoyed this movie! It was a great twist on the fairytale. I like the fact that Snow White wasn’t “just” a damsel in distress. She was a fighter! Yes, she needed help, but she wasn’t going to let anyone take her down without a fight. It was dark and edgy and the tone, mood and costumes reflected as much. If you haven’t seen this one and you’re not looking for the cartoon version of Snow White and you want something a little more mysterious…then this story is for you.. Plus…it has Chris Hemsworth in it.

Any movie with this gorgeous speciman in it is okay with me. I don’t care how grungy he looks. He’s still delicious to look at.

The family liked this one as well. Even my husband so that’s saying something. Of course…he liked the fight scenes. Plus…they didn’t spend a lot of time on the “love” story aspect of Snow White and the Prince. There’s a great twist at the end which took me by surprise. I’d like to see a sequel of this one. Not sure what it could be…but I’d love to see how these characters evolved.

Next Week: Madagascar 3.

As always….peace, love and sex!

One Day At A Time – Six Sentence Sunday

Sunday, August 26th, 2012 | Six Sentence Sunday | 4 Comments

Going back in time again to an oldie…but a goodie! Today’s six sentences come from One Day At A Time, an older release from Cobblestone Press.

“Fancy meeting you here.”

His posture stiffened when he heard her speak, but his face appeared relaxed when he turned around to smile at her. “Hey.”

She approached him slowly until she was mere inches from him. “You’re not running away from the party, are you?”

His gaze raked her from head to toe and back up again, and when he spoke, his voice was raspy. “In a manner of speaking.”

 Kellye stepped a little closer.

Xavier moved back. “I think you need to go back inside.”

Xavier lost a bet and now has to pose nude for a friend’s art class. While posing, things sizzle between him and one of the students. She shows up later for an interview at his law firm. She”s the best candidate so he has no choice but to hire her.

Kellye has wanted to work for the most prestigious law firm in Dallas since graduating law school. Can Xavier convince Kellye that when it comes to finding love, all they need is one day at a time?

Writing Wednesday – The Novella That Won’t End!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2012 | Day Job, Work In Progress, Writing | 4 Comments

It’s been a busy last couple of weeks. I spent last week in teacher staff development sessions and getting prepared for school to start. It’s taken some getting used too…being in a new library in a new building surrounded by new people, but I like it! I’m exactly where I want to be doing exactly what I “want” to do. There’s nothing like liking your career and the stage that it’s in.  I did get some bad health news about my father over the weekend but I’m optimistic that things will be all right. I refuse to mope around feeling depressed. If I did, my children would see right through it and I’m not going to diminish their joy of a new school year and meeting old and new friends. So…I’m putting on a happy face.

Now…to translate that happiness and motivation into writing. I’m still working on Up All Night. This is the short story that refuses to be short…well, as short as I thought it was going to be. I love these characters though. Ian and Stella are unique. I don’t think I’ve ever written a couple like them before. Ian is this “great” guy, enjoying life but hiding a big heart behind his wealth and Stella is this proper and prim miss who refuses to give him the time of day because she thinks he’s nothing but a playboy and is not seeing the sensitive soul underneath. But…it’s the story that WON’T END! I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

I’m determined to have this one completed, edited, formatted and uploaded by the end of the month…even if it kills a couple of brain cells.

What about you? If you’re a writer, have you ever had a story that seemed like it didn’t want to end? If you’re a reader, have you ever read a story where you thought…enough already…or got to the end and wish it hadn’t?

Happy Hump Day!

Peace, love and sex!

Tips for Tuesday

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012 | Day Job, School, Tips For Tuesday, Work In Progress, Writing | No Comments

One thing I’ve learned from teaching the last 14 years, there’s still more you can learn, about your craft, about your students, about the subject you teach. I try to carry that over into my writing life as well. Reading other author’s blogs and websites can sometimes give you useful information about the craft of writing. So, I thought I’d share. Each Tuesday I’ll post a link or two about something I learned and found helpful from the previous week. Hopefully, you’ll find it educational as well.

I’ve been struggling with completing  a short story for the past month and I found this blog post via Twitter by Author Tonya Kappes.

Ever thought about writing romantic suspense? I have and hope to concentrate on it next year. Here’s a great blog post from Author Maggie Mitchell.

Ever thought about self-publishing, The Writer’s Guide To E-Publishing is the go-to group for it. They always have insightful articles on their website. They love to pay it forward to other authors. Check them out.

Have a great day!

Peace, love and sex….

Movie Monday – Men In Black

Monday, August 20th, 2012 | Movie Monday | 3 Comments

Summer time seems to release some of the best movies. I’m guessing Hollywood does this because kids are out for the summer and people are willing to spend their money if it’s hot outside and there’s a good movie to watch while getting out of the heat. And let’s face it…this summer was HOT! On several days we reached temperatures above 100 degrees outside. Of course, the weather outside had nothing to do with why my family went to the movies…we just like movies. We are a movie family. We watch movies. We collect movies. We love movies. That’s our thing. One day I’ll take a picture of our DVD collection just too show you how much. Plus, our favorite movie theatre featured $5.00 Tuesday’s all summer. All day! With 5 people in our family…we couldn’t pass that opportunity up. Instead of spending $45.00 for tickets…we spent $25.00.

I’ve seen a lot of movies this summer. A. LOT. OF. MOVIES. So, I decided that I would share my thoughts about said movies and you could share your thoughts with me. Cool? Cool!

First up…Men In Black

Men In Black officially came out in May…but, I still consider it a summer movie.

My thoughts – I enjoyed it. You can always count on a good laugh and great entertainment with Will Smith. He’s the man and he ain’t too bad to look at either. This movie offered a pretty cool twist to the franchise with Will’s character “Agent J” going back in time to save Tommy Lee Jones’ character “Agent K” with a little help from the past “Agent K.” Plus…I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t seen it…you learn something about Agent J’s past which was pretty cool and touching. The entire family liked this one. This one will be an auto by for the DVD shelf when it comes out.

If you haven’t seen it…you can probably still catch it in limited showings. Or, be sure to pick up the DVD when it comes out or watch it on Netflix.

Next Week: Snow White and the Huntsman w/Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth. Yeah..I know our girl Kris is in a bit of personal trouble right now with the whole cheating on Rob thing…but hey, she’s not the first cheater to be caught and damn sure won’t be the last in Hollywood land. So give the girl a freaking break already. Chris Hemsworth…do I NEED to say more…of course not. The man is gorgeous.

Until next week. Oh…if you’ve seen Men In Black, leave me a comment and let me know what you thought about it.

Peace, love and sex!

One Week Stand – Six Sentence Sunday

Sunday, August 19th, 2012 | Six Sentence Sunday, Writing | 2 Comments

I’m going back in time. Today’s six sentences come from One Week Stand, one of my older releases from Cobblestone Press.

Jasmine lowered her foot, giving the man a break. They were in a public place after all. “I also sell toys.” She paused for effect and to gauge his reaction. “Sex toys.”

Since he chose at that very moment to take a sip of water, he choked out his questions. “What? Sex toys?”

Laughter bubbled up in her throat as he coughed out his question. “Yeah. You know, dildos, cock rings, nipple chains. Pleasure balls.”

By the look on his face, he would have taken her right there on the table, if he could have.

“And is it…profitable?”

To entice him, she took a piece of ice out of her glass and slowly licked it. “Very.”

“Check please,” he told the waitress as she passed by.

Jasmine Martin doesn’t believe in happily ever after.  However, her best friend is getting married and she’s promised to be her maid-of-honor.  In Las Vegas six months ago, Jasmine enjoyed a passionate night with a sexy doctor named Evan.  After all what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.  Right?

That’s all about to change when sexy Evan turns out to be her best friends cousin.  After seeing Evan again, their one night becomes a one-week stand.  Evan Harris believes it’s fate that brought Jasmine back into his life.  Can Evan convince Jasmine to turn their one-week stand into forever?

A Thin Line – Six Sentence Sunday

Sunday, August 12th, 2012 | Six Sentence Sunday, Writing | No Comments

Today’s six sentences come from the very first novella I ever published. This one will always be near and dear to my heart because it was my first sale too. Hope you enjoy!

Engrossed in her swim, she didn’t notice the man until she began to surface out of the water.

“Aaahh,” Melodie shrieked.

Her startled gaze swung up to meet the same hazel eyes she’d seen in the hotel. The handsome specimen. He stood on the sand like a black Adonis.

“Um…hi.” What in the world was she supposed to do now? She was naked. Stark, raving naked and he stood there with a grin lighting up his gorgeous face.

Sam Loyd is a lonely writer looking for a no strings attached affair while vacationing in Aruba.  Melodie Waters is an up and coming hotel executive looking for a little fun in the sun before she starts a new job.  What happens when these two meet?  Spontaneous sexual combustion!

Sam and Melodie are drawn together by sex, but the more time these two spend together, they realize there’s a thin line between sex and love.  Will the fear of rejection and past hurts keep these two apart?  Or, will an unexpected encounter help them both realize nothing but love can turn a sex affair into a love affair.

A Thin Line is available NOW! Amazon / B&N / ARe

I did not officially sign up for Six Sentence Sunday…I forgot (bad author) but I decided to post my six anyway. Don’t forget to visit the other authors who are participating!

Have a great week.

Peace, love and sex!

  5. I will NOT watch horror movies.
